Whenever a prominent prize-giving event approaches, one notices a clamor for introducing fresh award types to acknowledge unsung work and delight the spirits of followers dedicated to specific genres.
My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, representing a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification backing this proposal stands as crucial above others. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.
The Genre Classification Challenge
Organizing artistic expressions is not a science; it’s very subjective, and typically spark debates concluding with vague boundaries. It's understandable that film award organizations steer clear of genre categories. But it is a necessary evil for the industry of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse it's challenging to consider them as a single art form.
For the full spectrum of achievement in video games to gain proper attention, and to ensure all game types to have a chance for representation, genre categories are essential.
Present Award Structure
Leading game ceremonies currently feature genre categories for Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these six categories successfully include many game types, and you can find room for most games within them.
Not so for puzzle games. No suitable classification appears for their placement. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, showing diverse approaches: building puzzles from a specific release, intense tile-matching of another game, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Where could they possibly go within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.
Recognition Challenges
There are dozens excellent brain-teasers published annually without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, if they accidentally match for categories like Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.
- A renowned logic title wasn’t nominated in any category that year
- A different innovative game missed out in 2019
- A beloved organization game got ignored in 2021
- Only a few logic titles scraped into small studio or handheld classifications
Value of Brain-Teasers
These are often compact experiences, but the art of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Iconic mobile puzzle games count as most popular titles globally and have been for many years.
The iconic tile-matching title competes with well-known building titles for the title of most purchased experience; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, and engaging across multiple categories.
Recommendation and Reasoning
Puzzle games wouldn’t have this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude so many good games out.
And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories in important events. Logic title developers operate at the demanding boundary game development, developing some of essential manifestations of gaming itself. Just like film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait decades.
